Message from the Superintendent It is with a heavy heart that I share news of a serious vehicle accident that occurred Saturday evening in Osage County involving three individuals, including two of our own USD 243 students. While the two students sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are receiving care, we are deeply saddened to learn that the driver of the vehicle, Louis Madden, a 27-year-old member of our Waverly community, tragically lost his life. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the Madden family and all those affected by this loss. We are grateful that our students are recovering, and we remain focused on supporting their healing—both physically and emotionally. Times like these remind us how closely connected we all are, and how important it is to look out for one another. We ask our community to join us in keeping the families involved in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. Sincerely, Duane Ford, Ed.S. Superintendent, USD 243 Lebo-Waverly

USD 243 is excited to announce that Mrs. Alice Preeo has been selected as the new Principal of Waverly Grade School! Mrs. Preeo comes to us from Neosho Rapids Elementary, where she served as Head Teacher and a third-grade teacher. She brings a wealth of experience in classroom instruction, teacher mentorship, and school leadership. Mrs. Preeo has also worked closely with Emporia State University to support future educators through mentoring and evaluation. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Science in Educational Administration, both from Emporia State University. She is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Her professional certifications include a K-6 Elementary Education license and a pending K-12 Building Leadership endorsement. What sets Mrs. Preeo apart is her passion for supporting both the academic and emotional growth of students, her commitment to staff development, and her deep understanding of small, rural school communities. She’s led professional learning communities (PLCs), implemented behavior support systems, and contributed significantly to school culture initiatives such as PBIS. Mrs. Preeo and her husband, Gage, live in Hartford with their two sons—Hayden (9) and Laiken (5)—who will proudly be joining the Bulldog and Bullpup family this fall. Please join us in giving a warm Waverly welcome to Mrs. Preeo! We are excited for the leadership, energy, and heart she brings to our school.
