The USD 243 Lebo-Waverly Admin team met today to begin working on a revised play for the 2020-2021 school year, With the Governor's announcement yesterday, revisions will be necessary for our schools. Preparation began today, but won't be put into place until after the state board of education acts on the governor's plan. Once we know that decision, more information will be posted about how our schools will look in the coming year.

Today, the Kansas State Board of Education accepted the “Navigating Change: Kansas’ Guide to Learning and School Safety Operations” document. This is a living document that will be updated continuously to reflect the changing landscape created by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is critical to remember this document contains recommendations only, not mandates, to assist districts in the creation of their reopening plans. The document is housed on the KSDE website and can be accessed at https://www.ksde.org/Teaching-Learning/Resources/Navigating-Change-Kansas-Guide-to-Learning-and-School-Safety-Operations. ECKAN Head Start provides FREE early childhood development services to families who qualify. Services vary in each county and community, based upon the needs identified through a community assessment process. Families can sign up for the following service options: Home-Based 90-minute, weekly home visits for families with children ages prenatal to 5 years. Head Start focuses on the development of the “whole” child and family. This means, we help families explore children’s overall health, mental health, social-emotional, and physical well-being as well as focusing on the typical intellectual development of children, including children with disabilities. Head Start believes parents are their child’s first and most important teacher. Therefore, we support parents to better understand early childhood development as well as support them to assess and set goals to reach their dreams for life-long outcomes and success. Research has proven children and families who attended Head Start were much more likely to become highly engaged and productive citizens as adults. ECKAN believes most people are doing the very best they know how to do. The question is, how do we begin to know those things unknown to us? Head Start offers intentional support to those who open their minds to ask, wonder, and learn. Go to http://www.eckan.org/headstart/ to learn what services are provided in each area. There is contact information available on the site as well as an opportunity to enter information for someone to contact them. Anyone can call 785-242-7450 to talk to an ECKAN employee. For information regarding Head Start in Coffey County, contact Kathy Sage at 620-203-0778.
