Junior High and High School students are required to turn in assignments for the core classes (For High School Students, these are classes that are required for graduation and will have required work): Math, English, Social Science, and Science. Grades are being taken in these classes and zeroes are being put in the gradebook. Students are expected to complete these assignments or they risk failing the class. and repeating it next year or Seniors risk not graduating. The grade book will close on April 29th for seniors and May 14th for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Teachers were encouraged in the 4/15/20 faculty meeting to update grades as often as possible as the end of the second semester approaches. Teachers will begin to fill missing assignments with zeros to keep grades as accurate as possible. Students please be contacting your teachers in any required classes that you have fallen behind in!

USD 243 Lebo-Waverly Thank you to everyone for your patience as we deal with our building closure. This has been a difficult situation for everyone involved in education. There is no place we would rather be than in our buildings with our students. The USD 243 Administrative team met today to begin working on our Continuous Learning Plan. Several things came from this video meeting: There will be NO face-to-face contact between staff and students! Starting Monday, the following teams will meet to continue developing the District CLP: Daycare - 2nd Grades 3rd - 5th Grades 6th - 8th Grades 9th - 11th Grades 12th Graders Each team will consist of a district administrator and all teachers in the listed grade levels We are planning on providing educational services starting Monday March 30th. We will be meeting with our teachers in small groups on Monday to discuss what this plan will look like. You can expect further updates next week. We have had some questions pertaining to personal items left at school. We will be putting together a plan to be able to get these items back to students as quickly as possible. More information will be available next week. More information regarding the Continuous Learning Plan will be announced as soon as possible. Once again, thank you for your patience in these difficult times. If you have questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact your building administrator! We are all in this together!

Thursday the continuity commission will release guidance to schools regarding continuing to educate and how to work with our families. Our administrators will meet online Friday to continue hatching a plan. Keep in mind...Safety first! Do not put yourself in proximity of other people. No face to face. No personal contact. Stay away from other people. This is for your safety, as well as, their safety. Learning to read and write is secondary, at this time, to your health and the health and safety of others. Our #1 charge is to provide a safe environment for students and staff. Right now that means stay away from other people as much as possible. Please do not do anything to cause people to come near you or come near each other. We will, in time, get processes in place for education and meals. For now, be patient! I have meetings tomorrow with County Emergency, Health, and School Leaders. I will let you know what comes from this meeting. Moving forward all district activities are cancelled including sports practice. There will be no sports or activity practice this week. There is a phrase called "Flattening the Curve". I will send you a video that explains the concept. We need everyone to self isolate as much as you can. We need to take universal precautions such as hygiene and hand washing. Encourage everyone to keep their kids as isolated as possible. Stay away from places people gather. This is kind of like a full court press, everybody has to be committed to slowing this disease down. If 4 out 5 people cooperate, It will be layups for this virus. This includes cancellation of all practices and competitions for this week. This prohibition is consistent with KSDE and governmental guidance and may be extended, should conditions warrant. Please note spring sports team members are prohibited from club or outside team participation and practice during this period. Not only would such outside participation be contrary to handbook rule, it would be contrary to the very reason activities are cancelled during the time we seek to mitigate potential transfer of the contagion. kshsaa.org

2nd grade was wrapping up a unit on the water cycle and one student asked, “What happens to the water that goes down the drain?” This question spurred a spontaneous field trip to the City of Waverly’s waste management system. The 2nd Grade class would like to thank Gary Giffin for his time and for sharing his knowledge with us today. It was a great opportunity to take what we’re learning in the classroom and put it into action!

Extra law enforcement will be on patrol making sure that you are properly buckled up ahead of the busiest travel seasons of the year. This season's annual "click-it or ticket" high visibility campaign kicked off Friday. Law enforcement agencies across the state have extra units on the street looking for those who are not wearing a seat belt. Last year, 127 unrestrained people died in traffic accidents -- many of those deaths could have been prevented with one simple click of the seat belt.

Anchor Lodge #224 AF&AM (Ancient Free & Accepted Masons), is a fraternal organization based in the communities of Williamsburg and Waverly. Freemasonry, at its core, is unlike any other social or fraternal organization. Whereas most organizations help their community as a group, Freemasons start with the individual. We believe that by improving and educating our members, they will become better citizens, which will naturally lead to them wanting to take an active part in improving themselves and their communities. There is an old adage that says, “Freemasonry makes good men better”. Freemasonry teaches the importance of helping others, especially those that cannot help themselves. This idea is inculcated at each Masonic meeting, during the opening and closing ceremonies. It is also reinforced when members support charitable projects on their own or within their Lodge. Charity is not forced upon our members. Instead, they choose to support charity because they believe it’s the right thing to do. Anchor Lodge #224, desires to be charitable and support our children. A donation towards the nutritional program of our elementary students has been made by the Lodge. Having adequate nutrition has been proven to improve classroom learning and retention. Thanks to Anchor Lodge’s support and financial donation, Waverly Elementary students have adequate funding to ensure that ALL students have afternoon milk this school year. Other ways Anchor Lodge and Kansas Masons can help our young people is through scholarship programs, band camps, essay contests, exemplary teacher & student awards and more. To learn more about any of these programs, please contact a local Mason.
