Welcome 

On behalf of the Dodge City Sports Commission and United Wireless Arena, I want to welcome you to the 2020 1A-DI/2A State Volleyball Tournament. CongratulaƟons on making this year’s field. We’re excited to have you in Dodge City and look forward to an exciting tournament. United Wireless Arena is an outstanding facility and we promise to make your tournament experience memorable.  

Attached with this letter is a packet of information to help you prepare for the tournament and to make your stay enjoyable. Included is information on the facility, a tournament schedule, parking arrangements, accommodations and more. Also please check out the tournament website at http://www.dodgecity.org/state... for additional tournament information and for lodging, dining, and entertainment choices available. I also suggest you consult your Volleyball Tournament Manual as we will abide by all regulations set forth by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Please share this information with all individuals involved with this tournament from your school. 

Please note the pass gate location for entry into the facility. The location is on the northwest side of the arena. For players, coaches, and other pass guests, please make your way to the west parking lot and you'll be able to access the facility at the entrance marked on the north end of the facility. All persons admitted free to the tournament must be checked off the pass list and be stamped at the pass gate. If a person is not on the official state pass list, they will not be admitted free of charge. For anyone needing to purchase a ticket, the box office is located at the front of the arena at the southeast corner. All other doors will be secured and not available as an entrance.

BOX OFFICE/TICKETS 

The Box Office is located immediately to the right of the main gates on the south end of the building. Please see the facility map included with this packet. 

Ticket Prices 

Adults: $10 

K – 12: $7 

Under 5 years: Free 

Please Note: With the exception of players on the court, wearing of a mask is required at all times during this event. This applies to inside the arena, concourses, and restrooms. Please make sure all players, coaches, administrators and fans are aware of this requirement.  

PARKING 

Parking at the arena is free.  

BUS PARKING 

Buses should drop off players at the northwest corner of the facility. Bus parking will be on the west side of United Wireless Arena. (See enclosed map) 

ENTRANCES 

Doors will open at 9:00 a.m. each day. The only entrance for spectators will be through the ticket office, located on the southeast corner of the arena. All players, coaches, tournament staff, volunteers, cheerleaders, and school bands will enter through the Pass Gate at the northwest corner of the Aren

PASS GATE 

The Pass Gate, located at the northwest corner of the Arena (See enclosed map) will open at 9:00 a.m. each day. Only people listed on the pass list will be admiƩed through the pass gate. Anyone not on the pass list must have a ticket and must enter through the ticket office located at the southeast corner of the Arena. 

Who can be admitted free is outlined on page 22 of the KSHSAA Official Volleyball Manual. Only one person may be listed on each line of the list. Only persons listed on the form will be allowed in by KSHSAA guidelines.  

LODGING OPTIONS

LOCAL DINING 

While you’re at the State Tournament there are a number of local dining options available to you. Dining options can be found on the official tournament site,

FOOD/BEVERAGES AT THE FACILITY 

Concession stands with a broad range of products are available at United Wireless Arena throughout the tournament. Facility regulations prohibit any spectator from bringing food and/ or beverages into the building. 

Participating teams will be allowed a team cooler in a designated area during the tournament. Players and coaches will be required to remain in the designated area and will not be permitted to bring food or drinks into the arena.  

HOSPITALITY ROOM 

Coaches, tournament officials, event volunteers, and media are invited to visit the Hospitality Room during their time at United Wireless Arena. The Hospitality Room is located in Room A & E in the Conference Center adjacent to the Arena and will open at 8:30 a.m.  In order to provide appropriate spacing and distancing, changes have been made to the hospitality setup. First, additional space will be provided to encourage distancing. Also servers will be provided to eliminate a buffet style setup. Drinks and snacks will be available throughout the day but hot food will only be served between 1 pm and 4 pm. 

To get to the hospitality room, go through the glass doors at the end of the main concourse at Section 100. You must have a Hospitality Pass to access the room – and your team must still be participating. Passes will be given to approved persons each day at the Pass Gate. 

UNIFORM TOP 

Please see the uniform and libero uniform requirements. Please refer to the inside front cover of the KSHSAA Volleyball Manual for specific instructions.

LOCKER ROOMS 

Upon arrival at the tournament, a tournament worker will direct the team to a dressing room. With only four teams coming to the site, each team will be assigned a locker room and will have access to that space throughout the day.  

PRACTICE BALLS 

Teams must provide their own volleyballs for pre-game warm-up. Volleyball carts will be provided at the arena for use during warm-ups.  

RESTRICTED ITEMS 

Glitter, Confeƫ and Balloons filled with helium are NOT ALLOWED in the Arena. Artificial noise-makers (horns, cowbells, whistles, etc.) are not allowed. Banners and signs are acceptable as long as they are not derogatory. Signs cannot be attached to anything in the Arena and cannot obstruct the view of spectators or block Exit signs. Signs may not exceed 4’x 6’. 

 SPECTATOR SEATING  

Teams will be assigned to specific sections of the arena so as to provide appropriate spacing and reduce intermingling. Upon arrival at the Arena, please refer to the seating chart in the main concourse to determine the sections assigned to your team. Plenty of good seating will be available and we ask that you remain in assigned sections throughout the day’s matches.  

TOWELS 

Towels will NOT be provided – please bring your own. 

VIDEOGRAPHER 

Two (2) official team videographers will be allowed (with tripod) on the Arena Suite Level to video their team. Videographers must have a wristband from the Pass Gate to gain access to the Suite Level. Official videographers must record from the designated area and are only allowed on the Suite Level to record while their team is playing. Access to the Suite level is by elevator located in the south concourse. When the game ends, the videographers must return to the main concourse. 

TRAINING ROOM 

All training-related issues should be addressed to Michael Pelton (certified athletic trainer), who will be on hand throughout the tournament to assist your team. The UWA is equipped with a Training Room (which includes an ice machine and taping table). Training supplies (tape, etc.) will need to be provided by participating teams.  

PRACTICE FACILITIES 

Teams may not practice in the Arena prior to the start of the tournament.

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE & INTRODUCTION OF TEAMS 

Prior to the start of pool play, the tournament officials and all teams shall be present at 10 a.m. for the pre-tournament ceremony, after which the National Anthem will be played.  

10:00 AM – National Anthem & Introductions, etc.  

10:20 - Pre-match Conference  

10:25 - 20 minute warm-up  

10:45 - Round Robin Play begins 

4 pm - (or 1 hour after final match) Semi-Finals 

CHEERLEADERS 

School cheerleaders are welcome at the event but are to stay off the playing court during the match. The event manager and cheer sponsor will confer regarding a safe non-playable area for cheerleaders to be located. Student sections can stand in the bleachers only and not on the floor. Please refer to p. 15 of the KSHSAA Manual. 

School cheerleaders (no more than ten) in school uniform and their sponsor may be admitted free.  

CHAMPIONSHIP T-SHIRTS 

A limited number of KSHSAA State Volleyball t-shirts will be available at United Wireless arena during the tournament. There will be no pre-tournament sales from the state site and t-shirt sales will be first come, first serve. If you are unable to purchase a t-shirt at the arena, follow-up sales will be available on the KSHSAA website.
