Musicians and music parents:
I am so excited to be back in the classroom with all my music students! I have had many parents and students reach out with questions so I thought I'd try to address some of them officially!
--Yes! We are still having BAND! I have been closely following studies sponsored by major music organizations on how we can take precautions and still MAKE MUSIC! Some things will include: masks for instrumentalists with slits for mouthpieces, bell covers for instruments, outdoor rehearsals, and lots of spacing!
--I've had several people ask: What do you NEED? I've found this hard to answer as I hesitate to ask more and more of people with everything going on. A couple things come to mind -
1. Donations - old instrument lying around? maybe you're an excellent sewer and want to volunteer to make a few masks and bell covers? Maybe you just want to donate? All of these things are GREAT!
2. I will be building elementary music kits for our general music classes this year - look in the future for a list of needed things and if you have any handy, feel free to drop them off!
3. If you have a student in band, and they do not own their own instrument, this is a REALLY GREAT TIME TO INVEST! I have basically run OUT of instruments to offer 5th graders for beginning band. Please consider finding a new, used, or rental instrument so we can free these instruments up for beginning band students and, most importantly, not SHARE! I have information on rental options if you are interested and am always willing to look at possible purchases.
Please reach out with any questions you might have and look forward to more updates! I can't wait to see you again!
