Schools Closed

March, 17, 2020

USD 243 Students, Staff, and Community Patrons:

At 4:22pm today, Governor Laura Kelly will issue a proclamation effectively closing school buildings until May 31st, 2020.  This closure is in an ongoing effort to limit public gatherings and the spread of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

To that end, the school year is not over, but rather will continue in a format and delivery that is likely unprecedented and new for several of our students and families.

In an effort to provide for the necessary time and planning needed by our staff to execute these new learning delivery models, school is cancelled for all students from March 23rd through March 30th.  Our faculty and staff will be meeting to decide upon the best ways to deliver instruction for the remainder of the school year. Information regarding how instruction and learning will occur throughout the rest of the school year will be distributed once our staff have had time to finalize those plans.  More information will be distributed to the entire school community as soon as it becomes available.

We understand that these are extremely challenging and unpredictable times.  To that end, we are committed to providing you with updated information as soon as it becomes available.  Further, we are fully committed to protecting and maintaining the safety of all of our staff while providing for continuity of learning for our students.  A Students First approach will continue to guide all of our decision-making going forward.

We wish to personally thank each one of you for your patience, flexibility, and perseverance during these unprecedented times.

More information will be shared in the coming days.
